Eastern & Oriental Hotel

This wonderful old hotel lies in the heart of Georgetown and was first opened by the Sarkies brothers in 1885 who also owned Raffles in Singapore at the time. Lovingly restored by the current owners the hotel epitomises the grandeur and elegance of days gone by.

A stay here gives you the chance to explore Penang’s historic capital with its many fine old buildings rubbing shoulders with modern neighbours.

Many famous guests have stayed at the Eastern & Oriental Hotel including Noel Coward, Rudyard Kipling and Somerset Maugham. Although it is not on the beach it is set right beside the sea and from the pool and sundeck you can hear the waves washing the shore.

Accommodation - The spacious suites are all decorated in period style and are air conditioned with television, telephone, minibar and sitting area.

Facilities - There is a restaurant and bar, coffee shop, gym, swimming pool and from the hotel you can follow a heritage trail and learn some of the history of the city.
