Mekong River Cruise through Laos
A relaxing journey through picturesque Mekong River scenery in Lao, from the Thai border to the perfectly preserved town of Luang Prabang. Overnight will be at a characterful lodge by the river.
Day 1 - Chiang Rai to Pakbeng
Transfer from your hotel to the Thai - Lao border and after formalities, you will be assisted to the boat at Houey Say (Houay Xai) pier. The characterful Luang Say boat has comfortable seating for up to 40 people on its open air deck from which to enjoy the passing scenery.
After a one hour journey along the river, the boat stops at a Kamu village. Enjoy a delicious Lao-style lunch back on board as the journey continues down river to Luang Say Lodge near Pakbeng. Arrive before sunset with plenty of time to refresh and enjoy the surroundings, before dinner is served on the terrace overlooking the Mekong River. Luang Say Lodge enjoys a serene setting backed by mountainous jungle and offers traditional pavilion style rooms with en suite facilities and beautiful river vistas.
Day 2 - Pakbeng to Luang Prabang
Mornings are special times at the Lodge, where breakfast can be enjoyed against the backdrop of peaceful mountains that are often shrouded in mist. The cruise departs for another day of discovery along the legendary river, enjoying the sights of granite cliffs and sparkling sandy shores on its way to Luang Prabang.
A stop will be made to visit a hill tribe village of Baw, where you can watch the traditional process of making Lao whiskey. After lunch onboard, the cruise continues to the Tam Thing Cave near Pak Ou village, famous for housing over 2,500 Buddha statues of all sizes and for being a place of pilgrimage for locals. Later the cruise finishes at Luang Prabang, the former royal capital of Laos.
